Covid Plan for Autumn-Winter Announced

The Prime Minister yesterday, 14 September, set out the Autumn-Winter Covid Plan.

Following the successful vaccination programme and the impact this has had on hospital admissions, the plan hopes to continue this trend by:

- Offering booster vaccinations to those in priority groups
- Continuing the test, trace and isolate programme with symptomatic PCR testing throughout Autumn and Winter.
- Providing free of charge lateral flow tests.
- The continuation of the legal obligation to self-isolate for those testing positive and their unvaccinated contacts.
- Supporting the NHS with an extra £5.4 billion for the Covid response.
- Offering continued guidance to the public on how to protect themselves and each other - letting in fresh air, face coverings in crowded/enclosed places, getting tested and isolating if needed.

The announcement has also stated Plan B, which includes:
- The introduction of mandatory vaccine only Covid status certification in certain riskier settings.
- Legally mandating face coverings in certain settings, such as public transport and shops.
- Communicating clearly and urgently to the public if the risk level increases.

Another consideration the government could introduce is asking people to work from home again, if necessary, based on the data at the time.
