As NFOP Chairman I am active in all areas of work undertaken by the Executive Committee and attend various meetings throughout the year to assist the Executive Committee to achieve the best possible results for the NFOP.

I have been very fortunate in my career as a special needs teacher in primary schools. I have worked full time in many schools for over 26 years and received a long service award. I continued working in schools as a supply teacher for a further 11 years and for the last 3 years as an invigilator in secondary schools.

I have been on the Executive Committee for over 4 years and I am currently the Chair of Mount Pleasant and KEB 380 branches.

I enjoy meeting members of the NFOP and during COVID I set up a WhatsApp group to support as many members as possible with regular updates. I also volunteer and support our community through Rotary and have been a Rotarian for a good many years. In July 2023, I will be the district governor for Rotary in London.

I love to travel and have visited over 50 countries.

I worked in the postal industry for 57 years and have been a member of NFOP since 2006 when I became a Royal Mail pensioner.

I qualified as an accountant in the 1980s and was vice-Chair of CERP (the European Postal Regulators Committee) from 2005 to 2011.

Last year I was honoured to have been elected to the NFOP Executive Committee and I have also represented the NFOP on the Governance Group of the Royal Mail Statutory Pension Scheme (RMSPS) since it was established in 2012.

For the last 10 years I have ensured that the Cabinet Office adheres to commitments given when the Royal Mail Pension Scheme was “taken over” by the Government.

As an employee of British Steel, I enjoyed a variety of roles and for 20 years of my service, I held the position of Chairperson for my union which dealt with disciplinary procedures, health and safety compliance and pay negotiations.

I very much enjoyed helping and assisting my fellow workers and on retiring I was asked to join the NFOP as British Steel Delegate which enabled me to continue supporting the pensioners that I represented.

After being on the NFOP Audit and Risk committee I was elected to the EC albeit unfortunately through the untimely passing of a friend and former Steelworker.

Throughout my working life and in retirement the most pleasing thing about the roles I have held is being able to help others with their concerns, not just pensions but with other problems they may face in later life.
